2019 has been a busy year in getting Ireland’s National Cyber Security Cluster off the ground. We want to thank everyone who attended the Cluster Workshops in February (Cork, Galway & Dublin), the Cyber Ireland Launch in May, the companies and organisations that have signed up as members, the newsletter readers and everyone who has supported us on our journey so far. With over 140 member organisations signed up to date, the buy-in from the cyber security ecosystem – industry, academia and government – has been fantastic.
We are delighted to announce that Cork Institute of Technology & Cyber Ireland were successful in the Enterprise Ireland Regional Technology Cluster Funding announced by Ministers Humphreys and McHughThe proposed national Cyber Security SME Cluster will drive the development of indigenous cyber security SMEs and start-ups, as well as supporting cyber-dependent SMEs across industry sectors.
We know there’s a lot more work to do, and we depend on the support of the cyber security community in our goal to provide a collective voice for the sector and address the challenges set out by industry. We are looking forward to what’s to come in 2020 through building and supporting Ireland’s Cyber Security Cluster.
“Irish and Israeli Perspectives on National Cyber Strategies”
Cyber Security experts came together in Dublin on 5th of December to discuss national cyber strategies and their importance in supporting Cyber Security Ecosystems. Cyber Ireland and Ireland Israel Business (IIB) welcomed a panel of notable guest speakers offering their insights on ‘Irish and Israeli Perspectives on National Cyber Strategies’.
Special guest speaker Mr. Buky Carmeli, Former Director-General of the Israeli National Cyber Security Authority, discussed the Israeli perspective on the subjects of national cyber defence and how civilian cyber domains challenge traditional national policies. He also identified the building blocks that are crucial for a full-scale national cyber defence strategy.

University College Dublin (UCD) and the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, in partnership with the Boston College Global Leadership Institute, are recruiting for a new three-month cybersecurity fellowship to begin February 2020. What’s Going on in Cyber – January:
‘Slándáil 2020’ the inaugural National Security Summit Ireland will take place in the Helix on the 25th and 26th February. The summit will connect government, academia, the business community and the public in order to encourage discussion and debate of our national security needs and requirements. In the age of climate chaos, emerging disruptive technologies, and greater connectivity in cyber space, Ireland’s geographical position no longer guarantees the safety and economic stability that we have become accustomed to.
The summit will host 5 tracks touching on global security, defence & policing, emergency preparedness, cyber and innovation. The day long cybersecurity conference on the 26th February will examine how cybersecurity and our cybersecurity community fit into the wider national security architecture. It will debate the risks and opportunities for the Irish economy in relation to cybersecurity, the implementation of Ireland’s second national cybersecurity strategy and how to strengthen international co-operation in cyberspace and promote cross sectoral co-operation in Ireland.
